Orange Coast College’s $113-million Student Union, College Center near completion

Orange Coast College has been a relative ghost town since students transitioned to distance learning in March during the coronavirus pandemic, but for work crews, planners and designers the past few months have been busier than ever.

And that work is beginning to bear fruit as officials with Orange Coast — still mainly closed as online instruction continues through the fall — announce the completion of several major building projects on the Costa Mesa campus that have been in the pipeline for more than a decade.

Industrial Design Student Receives 2020 International Housewares Award

Hines College of Architecture and Design senior Industrial Design student, Antoinette Louw, recently placed second in the 2020 annual International Housewares Association Competition for her product “RUF Protection Vest,” a multi-layered dog protection vest designed to help shield small dogs against attacks from other canines.

Louw conceived the product as part of her junior design studio in Spring 2019, led by Industrial Design professor George Chow, where students were charged to cultivate human-centered design. Each student found ten people with problems or situations in which design could alleviate the current issue.

Student discounts offer a lifeline for anyone in education. Given that much of the time you’re loaded down with debt, and probably having to combine your studies with part-time work just to pay the rent, any help you can get is greatly appreciated.

Student Home Design Competition | CT Home & Remodeling Show

For 70 years the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Central Connecticut has held a Student Home Design contest as part of the Connecticut Home & Remodeling Show. Starting in 1948, the Student Home Design Competition allows students from all Connecticut high schools the opportunity to demonstrate their creative and technical skills and to be recognized for their talents. Additionally, they are provided with the opportunity to win scholarships and awards.

The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Central Connecticut sponsors the Student Home Design Competition for students in grades 10 – 12 that are enrolled in design or drafting
